We love looking back on this bluestone path. From above, the flowing layout really comes to life, showing how each large round stepper was positioned to create a natural, balanced journey through the landscape.
Mt Martha Bluestone Path
Mt Martha
Seventy bluestone steppers โ each measuring between 800โ1000mm and weighing over three tonnes in total โ were carried down by hand and laid one by one. Metal trim walls were installed to define and hold the pathโs shape, allowing the design to be adjusted on the fly as the layout evolved.
At ground level, the scale and texture of the bluestone really stand out. The spacing and placement of each stepper were carefully considered to create a path that feels intuitive to walk while sitting naturally within the surrounding grassed area.
With planting added along the edges, the path settles seamlessly into the landscape. The combination of solid bluestone, soft greenery, and thoughtful spacing creates a finished result thatโs both functional and visually striking. As always, thanks to @canterburystone and @cfultonvic for supplying the materials.
